Pain…

When you lose someone you love, pain comes in waves. My husband used a phrase the other day, “It comes to the surface like earthworms after a spring shower.” Now, I know he didn’t mean grief when he used the phrase, but it fits. You see, grief comes and goes. There is no timeline. There is no schedule. You don’t know what triggers, what brings on the overwhelming sadness, pain, and heart break. It just happens. Psalm 34: 18, “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.”
I have two friends who have lost their mother. A dear friend who lost his wife. I understand loss all too well. There are times when waves of sorrow for those I love envelops me in a blanket. I know many others who feel heartbreak deeply. As I see, listen, and pray for healing that comes slowly, I am always reminded that in our Heavenly Home awaits these loved ones. The sorrow that comes today will one day be replaced with joy unspeakable. Romans 15:13, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”
