AJ's Gifts...

Our grandson, AJ, spends as much time as he can at our house. My husband says it is because I let him watch his tablet. Perhaps...., but I can monitor and we take breaks. But that's not the focus of today's blog and will come at some point. I'm sure of it. Every Christmas since AJ was able to walk and talk, my husband and I take him to the store to buy gifts for the family. He doesn't get anything on this trip. It is all about recognizing what someone needs and giving to that person. He buys for his Ma (great-grandmother), Mom, Dad, Moppy, and Papa, Uncle Taylor, and Uncle Bryce. This is his family for our holiday gatherings on his Dad's side. We talk to him as we drive to the store about what he is going to buy. We try to keep our influences to the minimum, only steering him in monetary value and if he got that person the same thing last year. His gifts are the highlight because only my husband and I know what he got the others and their expectations are now beginning to grow as they have noticed his patterns.

As he has grown older, he has begun to understand the person behind the gift. He has begun to think about what the person needs, uses, and what they enjoy. Ah, yes, I'm to my reason for jumping out of bed this morning, running to my computer, and typing furiously on this blog. You see, many times something comes to me, and by the time I can sit down and type or write it out, it is only a memory. I realize those aren't the things God is leading me to share. Those are the things that are for another day. This, however, I know is meant for today. Philippians 4:19 says, “And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." God knows what we need and He knows what we want. He knows that sometimes what we want is not what is best for us. Matthew 6:33 says, "But, Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you". God knows us! How humbling is that! He, the Holy Father, knows me and what I need. He knows my heart and I know Him when I seek Him and spend time getting to know Him. He does supply our needs. It may not be in our timing, or in the way we want, but He does take care of us. He knows what is best for us. I had to learn that the hard way. My heart wanted one thing, but God wanted something else for me. Looking back, I know God knew what was best. My prayer is that I learn to trust Him daily in all things.
