Living Word...

A student once told me the Bible was a "fictional book". I won't go into what I told him; but, sadly, many people believe this. I can see how some might think that is the case if they look at the Bible in a certain way. Some people believe that the Bible is simply a book with characters, written long ago, and has no real connection to our lives or relevance in today's world. That is hard for me to understand.
This is the point where I have to admit that I used to read the Bible as simply a book full of stories. I didn't understand the relevance and my heart wasn't open to God's leading, direction, and teaching. That was before. As we grow and develop in our relationship with God, we yearn for a deeper understanding of Him. We seek His guidance. You can't seek God's guidance without moving into His word.
2 Timothy 3:16 states, " All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." In this scripture we learn that the Bible is living. The humans put the words onto paper, but the breath of God is in each verse, each line, each word, and each letter. It is a living, breathing blueprint for not just the past, but the present.
You see, when I read the Bible, I see the stories of old. But God also reveals perspectives for today. If I limit my viewpoint of the Bible to what I see only as a story from a long time ago, I am limiting God. I am saying that His word isn't meaningful for today. I am saying that these words don't apply to my life in the here and now. This verse doesn't just state part of the Bible is for training and rebuke, correction, and equipping us for God's work, but the scripture says, "ALL". Again, that means every chapter, every verse, every line, every word, every letter, and for me, every period, comma, and question mark. Who am I to limit God?
