See The Cross…4-21-25
See The Cross…4-21-25

Yesterday, our music minister told us about a question that was asked to people. The gist of the question was “What event during Jesus time would you want to see or witness in person?” I’m paraphrasing, but you understand the question. He talked about many answers from Jesus feeding the 5000, the resurrection to even the birth. While he was talking, my mind immediately went to the cross. Then he said, “No one wants to witness the cross!”

I want to see the cross! I don’t ever want to forget. Jesus suffered in such cruel agony for me. I can’t turn away from that. I don’t want to watch Him be flogged, bloody and beaten. I don’t want to see the moment the sky darkens and the Father turns His back on His Son, but I have to see that. I have to see the suffering and hear His last words.

John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.“ When we accept Christ as our Savior, we believe. We believe the Living Word. We believe He died for our sins. We believe the Cross. We believe in Jesus death, burial, resurrection, and ascension. We believe He is coming back. I don’t want to miss the Cross. It affects me each time I read the Bible, see the images, think of how Jesus died. But I must see the Cross. If it wasn’t for the Cross, I would not have eternal life.

Old Rugged Cross, George Bennard

“So I'll cherish the Old Rugged Cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the Old Rugged Cross, and exchange it some day for a crown.

O that Old Rugged Cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above to bear it to dark Calvary.

In that Old Rugged Cross, stained with blood so divine, a wondrous beauty I see, for 'twas on that Old Cross Jesus suffered and died, to pardon and sanctify me.
