I've been reading Samuel this week. I'm currently reading the part where Saul is hunting and trying to kill David. Saul is jealous of David. In my opinion, it is evident in the story that Saul is not consulting, talking to, or listening to the Lord. It is also evident, in my opinion, that God's hand is on David. He is protected as he moves from place to place evading Saul. Twice David had the opportunity to kill Saul. And twice, David spares him. David explains his lack of understanding to Saul. Asking him why he would want to harm him. He doesn't understand, but he trusts God that He will be protected.

There have been a few times that I know I have had the opportunity to have my "eye for an eye" moment. There have been times I have faced those who have meant me harm. There have been those who have delighted in my pain. I don't know how David felt then, but I know how I have felt. I didn't give in. I trusted.

There is strength in trusting God. Proverbs 29:25: "Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.". Just like God kept David safe from Saul, we are kept in His hand. Does that mean we will not experience pain, hurt, or evil? Absolutely not. What that means is we will be kept safe from the temptation of sin, deceit, and separation from God. Turning to His word brings us understanding of persecution. We understand there will be trials. But we know we are protected. I can trust in the Lord. Psalm 9:10: "And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you."
