Late…

My husband and I get up at the same time each morning. I begin to ready myself for work, and he makes coffee. He will pour me a cup, and bring it to me. We will talk throughout the time that I complete my morning routine. This is our time. Often, I will find that I’m running late because we begin a conversation that I don’t want but to leave just yet. I enjoy this daily schedule. I look forward to our precious few moments each day.
You see, for almost 30 years, my husband and I were not together in the morning. We would frequently talk on the phone, but face-to-face time was scarce. After my husband’s retirement, we began to alter routines. We rearranged our schedules, and started doing things that we had never had the chance to do before. Better late than never, some would say.
We are blessed. We have been given the opportunity to spend more time together before it is too late. Many don’t get that opportunity.
I think about the fact that there are people who will wait until it’s too late to come to Jesus. Isaiah 55:6, “Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.” It grieves me that there are those who will make this choice. Their desire to live their life first, their disbelief altogether, or just “I will wait” attitude hinders their acceptance of Christ.
Ephesians 5:15-16, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.” I also think people wait too late to live for God. I think we put our plans and desires ahead of how we should live, ahead of seeking His will. Some people think that they can live their life now, and will serve later. They wait to live for God when they retire. Some people say that they will become involved when they have the money or time to relax. When they get older, they can serve in other areas. Maybe they can be involved in ministries at a later time, but now they are just too busy. They can teach a class when they slow down a bit. It is true that quite a few people who are really involved in God’s service are older. But if you knew these people, most of them didn’t wait to serve, they served when they were younger as well. Service is a heart thing, not an age thing.
My husband and I are blessed to have this time. I am grateful that it wasn’t too late. My husband’s cousin and another lady in our community went to be with the Lord within the last 24 hours. It is too late for them to do anything else in their life. It is too late for any of their loved ones to spend any more time with them. Their time for serving has ended, and they are now face-to-face with our Lord and Savior. Don’t wait until it is too late.
