Dance Like David...1-17-26

Phil Wickham has a song that I can't stop singing. The verse is this:

"I wanna walk with Moses on streets of gold

And dance with David before Your throne

To thank You face to face for the grace You've given.

I wanna see my children run into Your arms

And worship the Savior who wears my scars

There's an ache in my heart.

I'm homesick for Heaven."

This song in its entirety speaks to my heart in every sense.  I won’t put all the words here, you can look it up if you wish (and please do), but the gist of the song is that we long for our Heavenly home. One lyric says, “Cause I was created to be where You are!” You see, God created us and promised us life everlasting if we believe, John 3:16. “In hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time.” – Titus 1:2. From the beginning, He created us to be in communion with Him.  Again in Corinthians we see this promise. “For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.” 2 Corinthians 5:1.  It is okay to love your family, your friends, your neighbors, but our hearts seek a time we can be in His presence. I heard a dear friend say that her mother told them she was ready. She is elderly, has lived a full life, and recognizes that as her time on Earth eventually will cease, she will be in His presence. That is the long and homesick for Heaven that I understand.  She doesn’t want to leave her family, but she wants to see her God.  The God who created her to be with Him.  I know she may have difficulties walking now, but she will Dance Like David in His presence before His throne. What a joyous reunion.  As her daughter and her husband are saved by grace, this woman will see her children run into His arms.  He holds her scars. He comforts her. I don’t just see these lyrics within my own life. I see these lyrics in the lives of others who love God.  Those people who have given their lives to Him.  Those people who wait upon His appearance. Philippians 3:20, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,”.

My point here is this.  It is okay to long for Heaven while we are on Earth.  It is okay to realize why we were created and fully serve Him.  We are in this world, but not of this world.  We can love our family, want to see them grow, witness to them, pray for their salvation, but understand and feel homesick for Heaven.  While some (and I did at one time also) see that as a conflict and struggle with that, those who are not saved will never understand that heartfelt longing. That homesickness for Heaven.  I love to dance, and like I sing, I do not have rhythm. I look forward to the day where I Dance Like David before His throne. Psalm 73:23-25, “Nevertheless, I am continually with You; You hold my right hand. You guide me with Your counsel, and afterward You will receive me to glory. Whom have I in Heaven but You? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides You”.
