Focus My Eyes...

I have been thinking a lot lately about the work of God. What does that mean in my life? How am I serving the Lord? Are my intentions pure? Is there any fleshly nature in me? Well to the last question, I can resoundingly say, "Yes". I have a fleshly nature that crops up and I continually tamp it down. I told my husband this morning that I love the way the Lord puts things constantly in my path that He wants me to focus on. As day by day passes, the more my heart desires to serve. I want desperately to do God's work in everything and in every way.
I have this friend, Mr. Joel, who sends me daily messages with scriptures. I am on his texting list. I always try to stop and read these, although sometimes I have to read them at a later point. Today's message was right in line with what God has been putting on my heart. God's work. "For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6.
Let me give you a scenario. You can picture this because it is reality. Suppose, two people grew up in very different homes. One, in a home with a spiritual leader. The other grew up in a home similar to mine. This home was as far from Christianity as you can get with the influences removed in service and understanding of what it means to "work for God". The one child knows how to serve God and understands how to be a spiritual leader from his examples. The other child must learn as he grows. He is not taught God's love, His mercies, how to serve, or how to respond to the expectations of God. He doesn't know God's work other than reading and studying, talking to spiritual leaders around him, and above all else, praying for answers and allowing God to lead. The truth is for many of us, as Mr. Joel stated, "We just don't know how to be the spiritual leader God called us to be." However, we do know that if God desires us to be a spiritual leader in any capacity, He will provide for us the answers, the wisdom. If we take "the first step to make it a priority. Quit spending so much time on affluence and focus more on our influence. God will provide the help if we seek it." Now for anyone who thinks I have taken Mr. Joel's text and copied it into my blog, I have quoted. Mr. Joel is an amazing man of God and I know he will allow it. With the help of his theme, I have blogged about what God has put on my heart. Now back to the topic.
Wow! There was my WOW moment of God's work. The home I grew up in did not afford me an example of God's work. It did not allow me to see a great example of how to serve. But, and I say, But God... over time has given me so many wonderful examples of people who serve, and how they serve that I have an example and influences. I know how to serve if I Focus My Eyes. I need to focus on God, quit overanalyzing and making excuses about my service, and simply serve. When we take our focus off God and focus our eyes on the world or ourselves, we lose sight of what God wants us to do. Thank you, Mr. Joel, and others for the simple reminder to Focus My Eyes...
