Joshua…10-27-25
Joshua…10-27-25

I love the phrase “She/He’s my Joshua”. What a great compliment. Joshua was a man who served with qualities that I can only pray God sees and firmly cultivates in me.

Joshua was born the son of Nun, Tribe of Ephraim in Egypt. He was most likely born into slavery. Joshua was considered humble and obedient. He was a commander in the Israelite battle against the Amalekites in Rephidim in Exodus 17. He was a servant (minister) to Moses and went part of the way up Mt. Sinai with him in Exodus 32. This was when Moses received the tablets. Moses installed Joshua before his death to lead the people. Six nations and 31 kings were conquered under Joshua’s leadership in Joshua 11 and 12. Joshua and Caleb were two of the men sent into the promised land to scout. Joshua successfully lead the Israelites across the Jordan into the land of Canaan. We all know the story of the Battle of Jericho. Marching around the city seven times found Joshua following God’s precise instructions to a resounding victory when the walls came tumbling down.

You see, Joshua was only successful because he obediently followed God. He was a servant first to God and then those with whom God sent him to minister. He was a man of integrity. He was a faithful companion. He was what many would call a spiritual leader. But Joshua first and foremost realized the power and glory was to God alone. He then understood his purpose was to follow, serve, and be obedient. Joshua had fears. Remember the passage “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Josh. 1:9). But Joshua fixed his eyes on God, his purpose, and his heart of ministry.

I want to be a Joshua. Yes, I have a desire to be someone’s, anyone’s Joshua. But more so I want to be God’s Joshua in my family, in my church, to my friends, for my grandson, but most of all for God. My desire is to be His servant, His obedient daughter, and fulfill my purpose with my eyes fixed on Him. Then, I too will see the Promised Land.
