Sunny, my grandson’s cat, has begun to settle in since we brought him home a month ago. He is still very skiddish, will not be picked up, but does get up in my grandson and husbands’ laps to receive his level of comfort. During the day, he has adopted my chair on the front porch. When he is in the back, he will get up in a crate in the sun and hide. The crate offers a level of comfort, but faces the sun, and he sleeps there.
While woodworking this past week, I piled my leftover pieces on top of the crates. Now, I don’t throw wood scraps away. My husband sees scraps, I see potential pieces. We agree to disagree, and he is content with this.
This morning while pulling out Christmas pieces from the garage and wiping off spiders, I noticed something in the crate. (Have I mentioned before that I hate spiders?) Sunny, had figured out how to get around my inconvenience to his place of comfort. He adapted. Oh, mind you, he is a even more content because, he is more hidden than before.
Isaiah 43:18-19 says, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”
You see, even for this animal, God makes a way that is better than before. It struck me that the Lord knows what we need, yet we hold on to the past like a child holding a cookie knowing the parent said “not know”. We don’t see the rivers in the wilderness, we see here and now. We don’t want to even look for alternatives because we want what we had, our comfort. God sees the new things that He has for us. These are even better than the old things.
Yes, Lord, I will look closely at what you give for I want to walk by still waters, even those in the desert.
