In the past, I have seen rejections as personal. This is not something that I alone have done. Most people do take rejection personally even though it is not necessarily intended to be that way. Job rejections in particular were hard for me, because I had put so much into my career and wanted to advance.

As I’ve grown in Christ, matured in the word, and learned to discern God’s will in my life, this viewpoint has changed. Oh, there are people who have rejected my good intentions, me personally, and my help because of personal reasons. There are always going to be people who reject you personally. Sometimes, this is because they don’t like you. Sometimes, this is because they are jealous. Sometimes, it is just because they are plain mean. I won’t lie and say that sometimes I don’t still care about all that. But, I am learning to lean on God in all things.

I know Paul was talking to the church of Philippi, but these words are so important today for all Christians. Philippians 1:9-10, “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,”

My prayer for everything I do has changed. I pray one simple prayer. “Lord, open the door if it is your will. Close the door if it is not.” I have begun to learn and understand that God closes doors when the thing behind that door will not be good for me. I don’t want to pry open a door that God has not opened. I am certain going against God’s will has been detrimental for me in the past. Many times my valleys and struggles have been because I have pushed my way past what God wanted trying to reach what I thought I needed.

I am seeking God’s discernment in all ways. Psalm 143:10, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
