Thankfulness Precedes Miracles…

The speaker of a Bible Study in which I am participating made the comment “thankfulness, always precedes miracles”. That was a wow moment for me. Now, you may wonder why wouldn’t I expect that? It isn’t that I don’t expect miracles, I see them everywhere. It is, I have never stopped to think about the concept from this viewpoint. We think of people showing gratitude after a miracle has happened, someone has been cured of cancer, after car accidents in which those inside were safe, and the list goes on. Our viewpoint, and gratitude, is reactive, but hardly proactive.
Jesus showed us a perfect example of being proactive. He took the bread and gave thanks before feeding the 5,000. The food multiplied in abundance. Jesus knew this miracle would take place. He understood and the disciples believed as they passed out bread and fish. No one questioned would there be enough. This act of thanks is a perfect example to all readers of trusting and believing. Matthew 14:13-21.
In Acts 16:25-26, one of my favorite scriptures, gives an account of Paul and Silas praising and singing in prison. They were beaten and placed deep in the dungeons. There they were thanking God, not expecting to be saved from their predicament, but they were rejoicing. A violent earthquake shakes the prison doors, opening them and loosing the chains. I read this with fresh eyes as I see the thankfulness preceding this miracle.
I know when I pray, I thank God for what He has done, is doing, and will do. I know I have heard others pray this way as well. I never doubt that He can do this. I am so grateful that Jesus hears our prayers of thanksgiving. I am so blessed that he provides those miracles in my life and others. May I never forget to be thankful expecting a miracle always.
