What Is Hidden…
What Is Hidden…

During a recent sleet/snow event, our old chicken house fell in. Within those walls were our baler, hay mower, hay, various Christmas decorations, and a lot of items that we put inside to keep dry and tucked away. Although the loss of the house used as a barn was very significant, it was also the last remaining remnant of a past that has now slipped away.

You see, my husband’s mother and father built those houses just a year before we married. That house was his mom’s. They would go together to care for chickens and that was her house. Papa would go to the lower and she went to the upper. Papa passed away many years ago. The first house was lost in 2011 to an isolated storm that took the lower chicken house, old barn, new barn, tractor shed, tool shed, and damaged the house and well house. This house was the last remaining part of that life. Yes, the houses were Papa’s dream and he was here.

Luke 12:2, “Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.” When we look at this verse, we mostly see the reality that deception is abound and everything will come to light. But this also includes feelings, character, and intentions. 40 years later and I didn’t see that connection until this past week. Sometimes hidden comes to light in ways that only God can orchestrate so that others understand.

1 Peter 3:3-4, “Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.”
