This week our church hosted VBS-Roar. We averaged over 50 students each day and had 21 professions of faith. I had the privilege of leading the Pre-K/Kindergarten class this year. I love the "Littles".
Psalm 127:3, "Children are a gift from the LORD ; they are a reward from him.". Throughout my educational career, I have chosen to believe that all children are a gift and are innately good. I don't like to hear anyone call a child "bad". I think, given the opportunity, every child can display and show kindness and compassion. Children are taught and learn from those they are around or the influences they are exposed to. Thus far, I have not met a child that has proven me wrong. I choose to have this mindset and call me "naive", but I will continue to believe this.
I can tell you an expression from every child at one point or the other during this week that I loved and will remember. Each face of one of my Littles during a song, art, activity, or lesson where I had to stop and smile. More than one case in which I had to pause and thank my Father above for them. Each and every one are gifts even though some were stubborn at times, some a little defiant, and a couple bordering on wild with excitement.
Every time I had to give a look, point or snap a finger, or stop wild play, I felt like I was being mean. My sweet and honery grandson told me I was cranky one day.
My point is this, when you look forward each day to the faces, that's the blessing. I missed the closing ceremony, but I know they were great. As they listened the last day to questions about the week and answered them with enthusiasm, I could tell they had heard the stories. They heard about how good God is. They also heard about His love for us. That was the mission. They were my gifts.
