Snapshots…

My grandson loves to take pictures. He took this one at the concert we went to this spring. He gets this love from me. (You can see me smiling as I type that.)
I was blessed to be able to get a new camera. As I was unpacking, he commented, “That means I get your old one, right Moppy?” It is over 17 years old, but still works pretty good. Has a few issues, but still works. The phrase, “right Moppy” accompanies every question. It’s a security and affirmation thing with him, and I understand that. I quickly told him, “That’s right, but it stays here.”
You see, life is filled with snapshots, with images lined up one-by-one just like a camera’s card, photo album, or phone storage. Some images, we keep stored away to look at from time to time, and we remember these with a smile. We look at the person, event, or memory that makes us laugh, cry, or just simply sigh. Other images, we try to quickly delete, they are not good in quality, or we don’t want to remember that moment and want them erased.
The problem with erasing these images, we forget the lessons that come with the event, the image, the time, the place, or the person. That image may be painful, but we went through each snapshot and image for a purpose. We grow from each image. We learn from every snapshot. Some snapshots, we decide that is one we don’t ever want to take again. Other snapshots could fill a thousand pages with their meaning that leaves us speechless. Some images, allow us to recall with joy, but others bring sorrow and sadness.
Learning from those snapshots is the lesson God provides for us and sometimes through us for others. “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.” Proverbs 9:9. I don’t want to throw away a single snapshot. I want every image to help me learn. I want to seek the scripture in each image and what God wants me to understand.
What does He want me to understand and learn from each snapshot, each event, each image, each person, and each second? That is found by scripture and pray. I will seek Him in my snapshots. 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”
