Eggs...
Eggs...

My grandson is an only child, and the only grandchild. This means there are a lot of activities that he does by himself. He doesn't have extended cousins that are available for Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, or family gatherings. Easter egg hunting is simply one of those things that is not fun by yourself. Yesterday, we decided that I would be his partner in the hunt. I informed him that I thought I could find more eggs than he, and the race was on. His dad and Papa hid the eggs very strategically. We began. Now, you know this grandmother's heart, I can't stand to see him lose; however... I am a little competitive as well. We ran to the first area, (Okay, I hobbled quickly.) I saw several eggs that his eyes had missed. He laughed, I laughed, my husband and son laughed. Nearing the end, I would look and when I found an area where I was sure there was an egg, he would block me out to get the egg. Yes, I let him find it. When we thought we were through finding all eggs, we counted. To my dismay, and his, he was behind by two, but we hadn't found them all. The two who had hidden the eggs, began searching their areas to see if there were any we had missed. Sure enough, my grandson found two more. Then, we were tied. He found the next egg, and he was ahead. Still thinking there were three eggs not found, we continued to search. Finally, we gave up. He had won and we opened eggs for candy, prizes, and of course, money. John 1:16, "And from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace."

You see, this day the eggs are blessings. Each egg represented a special memory, a special blessing that God had provided. I cannot begin to count the ways in which we have been blessed. Sometimes life doesn't work out like we had hoped. I wanted a house filled with grandchildren, his parents wanted more children, God knew our arms were full with this child, grandchild. Some eggs hold sweet treats that are gone quickly, the quick blessings. Perhaps, we look to the sky and simply say "Thank you" for a sunny day when we really need to work outside. The blessed rain when the earth thirsts. A friend's text that makes us smile. Some eggs hold a prize that provides for us in the time of need. An example might be monetary. When the air conditioning goes out and God provides the overtime to pay for the needed repairs. Some eggs contain prizes that extend into more memories. An example would be a toy that provides countless hours of entertainment. In our lives, the blessing of a friendship that leads to cups of coffee with which to share struggles, provide strength, or just simply enjoy the person God has placed so strategically in our life. Just like those eggs are different in shape, color, and what is inside, so are our blessings that He provides for us every moment. James 1:17, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
