Lip-Service Christian...

I have watched this young lady for 4 years play ball, complete assignments, and live life with grace and quiet determination. When asked about her future, she simply stated that she prayed and let God lead her. Proverbs 16:9, "The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.".

You see, too many times our lips tell one story and our heart tells another. We tell everyone that we do not worry and that we believe God has a plan. But, we wear fear and worry like a worn out coat. It is thread bare from pulling it on and taking it off. Our lips say that we believe God has this, but inside, we struggle with giving it to God and living. We don't simply pray, and let God lead. Oh, we might say we do. Let me stop here and say, "I say I do, but..." I say I don't worry about some things. I say, I have faith that it will work out. I say that I know God has a plan. But, at night, when I am still, the devil whispers into my ear, and I put that coat back on. My heart turns to God again, and I take the coat off only to do the same thing when the devil whispers again. Am I alone? I don't think so.

I was talking with a friend a few nights ago. She said one of the hardest things for her was to "truly give it to God". She shared with me that she is like me in that she feels the need to be a fixer. She prays and goes to God, but then she thinks, 'If I could just do this, it would help." We both laughed, but agreed that God doesn't need our help. I always try to remember, He is God and I am definitely not. He doesn't need my help, He just needs me to trust Him and believe even when I cannot see. (Hebrews 11:1) He is always in control.

Sometimes, I feel like we, as Christians, give lip-service where we need to give heart-service. Our lips need to communicate to our heart that God is in control. Our heart needs to trust in Him and believe that as well. When we truly have faith and believe that He is good and merciful, then we will have heart-service. When the heart service takes over, the coat goes into the dumpster where it belongs. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.'” – Isaiah 30:21
