Broken…7-20-25

My grandson and I were washing dishes a couple of days ago. He was happily talking and carefully washing each item inside and out. He picked up this glass and began to wash. As he was holding it up, it slipped back into the water. We heard the dreaded sound of glass breaking. He immediately froze. His reaction was one of sorrow, fear, and anxiety. He held very still as his hand was still inside the broken glass. I carefully took his hand out. We inspected for cuts. I talked to him as I removed the items from the sink, let the water out, cautiously looking for shards of glass, and removed the broken pieces.

He immediately wanted me to finish the dishes. He was afraid of breaking something else. He began with his thousand questions. “Moppy, is this Papa’s favorite glass?” “Moppy, are you sad?” “Moppy, I didn’t do it on purpose .” I try to always be patient when I am talking and working with him. On and on his questions went. I asked him one question first. “Am I yelling at you?” No! We all have accidents. I told him it wasn’t a favorite. We didn’t have any of those. He wasn’t playing or anything to cause the accident. I’ve done this countless times in my life. We will finish the dishes. He isn’t walking away because of a few broken pieces. This is part of life. He began to relax, we completed our task, and his mind was at ease.

You see, for a child who is ODD and OCD, approval and understanding is vital. However, for any child, this is an essential part of our growth and development. Even a child of God.

We, as humans, seek approval. God knows our humanly needs. As we grow in faith, our focus should always be seeking His approval and not that of man. Galatians 1:10, "For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ." When we are broken, scared, confused, anxious, or frustrated going to man for validation or approval is easy because we get the affirmation we think we need. As children of God, we learn to go to the Father. We begin to realize that His approval is the most precious and important.

2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” I have stated many times that this blog is what I feel the Lord has led. I pray within when I type that God would lead the scriptures. I pray the words, the heart behind, and the hands that type would foremost glorify Him. I do want and seek His approval. He knows the broken, my broken, your broken, and He binds our wounds if we only seek Him. His approval is all that matters.
