Isaiah 40:8, "The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.".

As I'm sitting with my coffee, I feel the breeze blowing my face. I see the flag flopping, and hear the birds happily chirping. I watched the squirrel come for one of the few remaining peaches. He jumps from limb to limb making his way, in what he sees as obscurity, to the peach and back to the ground. I notice the leaves of the tree we just had pruned. Drying and withering as they lay on the ground removed from their source of nourishment. The verse above came to mind. The seasons will quickly change and the flowers, that now bloom around me, will die.

I heard someone comment that they saw someone from high school. They were different in high school, not exactly the person they wanted everyone to remember. They had changed. They said it didn't bother them what people thought of them and how they remembered them, but I can see it does. Praise God, I am not who I was back then either. I have changed. I have grown. Parts of me have withered and died, never to return. Parts of me have withered and died to become more beautiful and fruitful than ever before.

I turn my head and see two Crepe Myrtle bushes. We cut these back late in May. My son was sure we had killed them. They were so baren. They are now full and lush with green branches 10 feet tall and full of pink flowers. They, too, will wither and fade when the seasons change. But they will come back even more spectacular than before.

You see, all these things, the leaves on trees, the grass, the flowers, and our life are transient. It comes, stays for awhile, and goes. God's word is not. It was, is, and will always be our guide. The word is truth. It is God speaking to us for every circumstance and guiding our life. Psalm 119:105 states, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."

2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.". I am so thankful that God's word never changes. It is not fleeting. It is constant, my security, and gives forgiveness.
