Coming Alive…
One of my favorite things to do is absorb the wonder as the world comes alive around me. Whether that means as I drive in the early morning hours to work, or as I sit on my porch waiting the dawn break and the shadows move away. I can see the world as it awakens refreshed and renewed.
You see, humans often awake with thoughts in their minds of tasks, heavy hearts burdened with suffering, or rushing to get what we know will be endless to-do items. The world around doesn’t do that. It slowly transitions, animals move about, birds call to each other, shadows disappear, and slowly everything comes into sharp focus. Nothing is rushed, nothing is burdened with fear or doubt or worries, everything is new.
One of my dear friends favorite verse is in Lamentations; 3:22-23 to be exact. "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness“. Just a side note here and one that is never lost on me. I have been thinking about what our farm name should be for many years. About a year ago, I decided on a name. My husband has long since said he didn’t care what the name should be. He just trusts it won’t be something crazy. Some day I will put up my sign for the name of our farm. It has been in my heart for a long long time, “New Mercies”.
But back to my point, doesn’t that verse in Lamentations encapsulate the very essence of what takes place each morning around us. God spreads His hand across our land, our lives, and opens up a new day. That day should never be burdened with yesterday. God takes those burdens. He carries those and we shouldn’t, I shouldn’t. I have long heard that worry is a lack of faith and trust in God. Is that not what His mercies and His faithfulness tell us? Is that not what He tells us throughout His word, 365 times, do not fear?
Just like the world around me knows that light will dispel darkness, I hold to that promise. Just like the animals know where their provisions come from, so will I, so do I. He is faithful and He does give New Mercies each and every second, every morning.
