Ears to Hear…

My constant prayer over the last few years has been for eyes (new eyes) to see and ears to hear. Fifteen times the phrase, "ears to hear" is mentioned in the New Testament. In the Old Testament, hearing is referred to with obedience. When I think of these words, I know God is telling me to listen for instructions. I can hear Him saying to me, "Listen to Me, listen to My word, and see what I am revealing. Open your eyes and your ears and listen with obedience." Proverbs 20:12, "The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both."
My issue with hearing and seeing is that I sometimes see or hear, and then perceive it to be something it is not. Have you ever looked at a situation, thought it was one way, only to find out you were completely incorrect about everything? WOW! What a revelation! You see, our ability to discern the truth, God's truth, is in listening and seeing through His eyes and ears, not ours. God gave us the ability, the gift, to hear and understand. He gave us the ability to see and perceive. But, this ability comes through Him and by Him, not through our own understanding. It is when I put myself into the situation that I think what I see or hear is one thing, I am then stepping out of God's will into mine.
I desperately want new eyes, "God's eyes", to see and I want God's hears to hear. I want Him to reveal what His plan for me is and will be. As I study scripture, read, listen to others, and delve into Bible Studies, I am reminded that understanding and hearing His will comes with an intimate and personal relationship with God. That comes from allowing His spirit to lead and guide. Revelation 2:7, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’"
