Emphasis...

My husband said something this morning that inspired my "Wow" moment. Who knew?!! I'm chuckling as I type this because he always inspires me in one way or the other. We were sitting in our favorite basket swings on the porch drinking coffee while we talk and I grade my last end-of-the-year assessments before semester tests next week. We are talking about something that truly has been an issue of sadness and I can't seem to wrap my head and heart around the same blanket. My head tells me what should happen, but my heart tells me that it still shouldn't be that way. He said you are still putting the emphasis on "who" instead of "why". To God be the Glory is what I hear.
You see, when we put our expectations on others instead of God we lose sight of the purpose, the why. The emphasis shifts from pleasing God and giving Him the glory to how we feel and our earthly desires. We forget that our purpose is to spread God's word and His name.
Proverbs 4:25-27, "Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil." When we lose focus and our gaze shifts, our emphasis becomes weekday we want to happen and our emotions take over. The devil inserts his toe and opens the door a crack. He finds his way in. If we are not careful, the crack will widen. Seal your crack and slam the door shut. I'm putting my focus and my emphasis back on my purpose, my service to God.
