Fear of God...

I was listening to the television in the background and a comment caught my attention. This is really the first time in probably a week that I have watched TV. The comment was by someone who attributes the increase in crimes committed by youth to essentially one primary reason. He stated this, "They don't have a fear of God." He went on to explain that they don't go to church, have parents who are taking them, or are even involved in their lives to any degree, no Commandments in school, and no biblical principles. They have been emboldened by music, television, social media, etc. to feel unafraid.
Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” When I look at this verse, I can see why the statement was made. When we fear the Lord, we understand what is needed, salvation through Jesus’ blood. Someone who has this knowledge isn’t committing murder, assault, theft, fraud, carjacking, or any number of other crimes. Someone who understands the need for God, has a desire to learn more about God and how we can follow Him. Psalms 111:10, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.”
Proverbs 19:23, “The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.” If we fear God, we respect Him, in awe of Him, and are obedient to Him. We begin to develop a meaningful relationship that strengthens us. We learn to trust God. We learn to rely on His power. I have a fear of God, but I am not afraid. I stand in awe at His strength, power, love, mercy, and goodness. I am humbled that He loved me so much to send His son. Jesus’s blood was shed for me. I would be afraid to be in this world without God.
