Finding Joy…

As I was spending a quiet morning at home doing dishes, laundry, cooking, ironing, etc. I was listening to the TV. Now, often when I’m at home alone, I have music on, but today I didn’t. A conversation the speaker was having with a gentleman caught my attention. He was recounting his story of dying and going to Heaven. He talked about the overwhelming feeling of joy. He also told of meeting Jesus and falling to his knees. In his story, the elderly man told of seeing his family who had passed away. He described their faces filled with such joy.
When I think of Heaven, so many things cross my mind, but my face always smiles. Joy is the description that I feel when I think about seeing Jesus. In John 16:22, “So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.”, Jesus tells His disciples that they will have unspeakable joy. A joy upon His resurrection that cannot be taken away. A joy that can solely come from the presence of the Lord.
As I watch my grandson doing the things he loves, I am reminded that our joy on earth is to often bound to circumstances, people, events, and earthly things. Our joy in God is bound to a Heavenly Father, and the life that comes with the closeness of His relationship with us and by His grace. It is sad that so many people place their joy on the things they have and do not have, on people, and on their circumstances. 1 Peter 1:8, “Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,”.
