How Sweet…

My husband says I do too much. He says that’s what is wrong with my memory and cognition issues. He says, maybe It is probably time to slow down. I’m not ready to do that yet. I’m not ready to piddle all day every day. Oh, I know there are days that I enjoy just a day at home piddling around and doing only what I want. Those days are few and far between. I think that’s why I enjoy them. I have so many things that I love to do.
For instance, one of those random things I like to do is make jam. On a rare few hours at home this past week, I attempted some plum jam with plums from my mother-in-law's tree. In the middle, I ran out of sugar. I almost always check ingredients before I start a project, but not this time. This time, I had washed, pitted, and was cooking the plums. I had even smashed them to my husband’s desired consistency. I was making a double batch. I had measured and poured in my first cups, then went for more. Not enough. I went to the pantry, and there wasn’t any there either. Oh my. What to do, as I was way to far in this project to stop and go to the store? My grandson was happily watching a video. I pondered. I stopped, thought, and opened a few cabinets to make sure I hadn’t stuck sugar somewhere else. (If you know about the Kool Aid in the cabinet story, you know why I checked again.) Then, I saw the Splenda/Brown Sugar blend. I was at the point, why not! It was going to be this or stop, put the mixture aside, and hope to try again after I went to the store. The results would be unknown either way. So, I poured it into the measuring cup, dumped it in, said a pray.
You see, sometimes things don’t always go just how we plan. Sometimes what seems like it should be easy, turns into something entirely unpredictable. If we remember the old song, “Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus”, we sing on. Psalm 9:10, "And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you"
I love the intimacy of this song and the sweet lyrics.
“’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to take Him at His word;
Just to rest upon His promise;
Just to know, Thus saith the Lord.
Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him,
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er,
Jesus, Jesus, Precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more.”
We find it easy to trust in Him when everything is going smoothly. We grow when we learn to trust Him when things are bumpy. We rest in the promises. We seek His words and pray for strength. Is my life rough now? No, not really! Bumpy, some rocks to climb over, but God is lifting me across each one. I will use those rocks as stepping stones to get closer to God. I will sing the sweet refrain and remember it is so sweet to rest in His grace.
Oh, yes, the plum jam was the best I’ve ever made. It was so sweet!
