It is a Heart Thing...

Proverbs 4:23 states "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it." When we let our hearts lead us into fleshly desires, we often forget that God has given us knowledge and understanding to seek Him for guidance. I know the scripture says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding." in Proverbs 3:5. In this scripture, God is telling us to go to His word. Not to follow our heart's desire, but to seek God with all your heart. Yes, I do believe God gives us the desires of our heart, if and only if, those desires are what is in His plans for us. That is If those desires are what is good for us! The Psalmist wrote in Psalms 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." When we turn to Him, he creates in us a clean spirit. He creates in us a new heart. I want to follow God first and foremost. There are so many scriptures I can add in this blog. There are so many places in the Bible where God tells us to come to Him with our Heart. He tells us in Ezekiel that He will give us a new heart and a new spirit. He tells us in Philippians that His peace will guard our hearts and our minds.
I love the scripture in Proverbs 27:19, "As in water face reflects face, so the heart of man reflects the man." You can look into the face of someone who loves God with their heart and see His light reflecting. I often wonder what people see in me? What do they see in my face? When I am not aware, what do I portray? What does my heart reflect? Does it reflect the love of God, His goodness, an understanding of His mercies, or something else? I truly believe it is a Heart and Head thing. The heart given to the Lord, following His word, and letting Him lead. Reading and gaining knowledge to understand.
