Little Things…

I am a simple person. As I have shared many times, I love sitting outside in the morning drinking my coffee and enjoying the awakening world. Rabbits sneak from tree and bush to the next in search of peaches, lettuce, and corn that I’ve been throwing out for them. A roadrunner has taken up residence in a bush beside a tree. Squirrels are loving the sweet Indian blood peaches on my Indian Peach Tree. Birds feed and scurry about looking for what I’m only guessing are the worms. You know the saying there. Cows munch the grass in the pasture beside the house. These are all the little things that bring me quiet reflection and a smile.
You see, being grateful for the little things, noticing them, appreciating them seems like a small part of life. We take it for granted. We take the ability to get up, go make coffee, go outside, sit down, and breathe for granted. We don’t think about or appreciate that we can do those small simple things, until we are reminded through a significant event in our life or the life of someone we love.
Ephesians 5:20 “And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The Bible directs us to give thanks for everything. That means the large events, significant, and the insignificant or small things. I’ve always been a believer in being appreciative of everything around us.
Matthew 13:31-32 describes how the smallest of seeds becomes a mighty tree. “He put another parable before them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but when it has grown it is larger than all the garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” I am not sure why, but this verse speaks to me and must be included. I keep going back to it. I will reflect, ponder, and then it will eventually be revealed. That’s the way He works.
I do love the little things. I love the thought of what was little growing into something mighty. I will share my little things, but I will also share the most precious thing, God’s love. 1 Timothy 4:4, “For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,”
