Mother’s Day…

This was Mother’s Day last year. I dreamed of a big family, lots of grandchildren, and lots of laughter. Reality is I have two babies in Heaven and two sons on Earth. I have a daughter-in-law and one bonus son. I have one grandchild. Although it wasn’t the large family of children and grandchildren I dreamed of, it is what God gave me.
There is a difference in what we want and what God knows we need. I have a friend whose daughter is in her 30’s and dreamed of a house full of babies. After 8 years, she has a son in Heaven and a daughter on Earth to fill her arms. Not where she thought she would be at this point, but God is still forming her future. Philippians 4:19, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
In 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul had a sickness. He sought God’s mercy in this situation and the answer wasn’t what we would have expected, immediate healing. His answer, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” Sometimes we get caught up in the desires of our heart that we fail to see the blessings in what God provides.
Do I have the large family that I desired? No! Do I have what, God knew was best for me? Absolutely!
You see, this is Mother’s Day and the ultimate present today is to have my children know the Lord as their personal Savior. My husband with me in church. My grandson singing beside me during worship. Mother-in-law coming over after to grill a burger. My sons and grandson will try out the science project I’m working on and my husband built. There will be laughter. It will be what God knew I needed. Yes, God’s grace is sufficient.
