My Light…7-21-25

On the rocky North shore of Lake Superior stands the Split Rock Lighthouse. A November 28, 1905 gale brought devastation and sorrow as 28 ships were damaged and two more met their fate on the rocky cliffs nearby. As American Novelist James Oliver Curwood proclaimed, this was the most dangerous pieces of water in the world. One man, a president of a steamship company, led a campaign for construction and Split Rock was completed in 1910. A symbol of light and hope for almost 50 years to guide those around to safe passage. It was closed for that purpose in 1969. The buildings are now a museum.

My husband and I love to see lighthouses. We frequently look for them to visit when we are near any body of water. This is a picture from March of 2022 at the Split Rock Lighthouse. I am awestruck as I look at the images and the symbol of hope, a light.

You see, we have a light, a light for our path given through His word. He guides us to safe passage. He protects us from evil, from destruction. A light that is our hope. John 8:12, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”” Jesus promises to be a light for us, to guide us, and to keep us safe from the darkness which is Satan.

Psalm 27:1, “The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” If we follow Him, we do not fear the rocks and waves. We do not fear the storms. We do not fear the one who wants to harm us. He leads us with a light so bright that a million ships and a million more would have safe passage in any storm.

I don’t like the dark. I don’t like the evil that exists within. I love the Son shining on my face. Yes, I know I used what some may consider the wrong homophone in that sentence, but I did not. He is my Light. He is my Salvation-of whom shall I be afraid?
