Override...

My husband has battled allergies and sinus issues since his only time with COVID in December 2020. He has taken multiple medications, been through several doctors, and has been taking allergy shots for almost a year. He has good days and terrible days. He is on multiple medications for the allergies and with the shots, it is manageable most days. I have noticed for some time now that when I wash our bedding, he usually has a worse outbreak. Now, at this point, let me insert that since my husband's time in the fire station, he has washed his clothes and I wash mine and the bedding. This includes our towels. He likes how he does his clothes, and before he retired, he wanted his uniforms a certain way. Have fun! When this began, we had two boys at home and I was happy to allow him his clothes and I washed the rest. I have suggested for several years now that my husband switch to my detergent which is free/clear of dyes. He has flatly refused. You should know that my husband is a creature of habit, likes things a certain way, and changes are not his thing. Now you get where I'm going.

You see, as children of God, He often directs us in a certain way. Sometimes we are unsure we hear correctly and wait. Sometimes, we know what we hear, but we don't really want to make that change. At other times we hear, but are afraid or uncertain of the outcome. We hesitate. God directs us and we wait, and then the direction becomes more pronounced. I have found in my life that if I continue to wait, after several redirections, the outcome is usually not what I would like. 1 Kings 18:21 says, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” Now I know changing detergents is not the same as following God and hesitating when He directs. But I believe God will override us when we don't follow Him. Just like I need to override my husband, God will override His children. He will show us the path to take, a direction He wants us to go, or something we are to complete. Then, if we consistently hesitate or do not follow the path God has directed, there will be a correction. Proverbs 3:11-12: "My son, do not despise the Lord's discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in." God corrects us because He loves us. It is okay to make sure what we think we are understanding from God is biblical and we will find that in his scriptures. However, when we understand His leading, if we don't follow, I believe we will be miserable, just like my husband is miserable right now.
