Psalm 40…

Psalm 40…1-29-2026

I love to read through the Psalms. I consider Psalm 40 to be one that is particularly poignant and meaningful. From the first lyrics of the Psalm, “I waited patiently for the Lord…” to the last words, “you are my God, do not delay.” It speaks of a promise. A promise of renewed strength, renewed hope in the Lord, and longing for the Lord to forgive sins and be a deliverer.  I see myself in many of these lyrics. I see myself praising God in these lines “ he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire, he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.”. I know that we all have had many struggles.  Understanding who God is, how He works in our lives, and His mercy and grace within our life is a meaningful part of being a child of God. I know what He has done for me, in my life, and how He has literally lifted me from a child in those circumstances, to an adult in my day to day struggles.  He has lifted me, shown me mercy and grace, and given me a rock to stand on.  He is my rock that I stand on.  

Verse four says, “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.”  Trust in any relationship is paramount to building an intimate relationship.  When trust is broken, the relationship often cannot heal.  Like the building above, the relationship crumbles. The pieces lay in ruins, and the foundation is shaken and moved. We have assurance that God will never break His promises.  His words are true. He is trustworthy in all things.  That is a promise that we can keep. I see many around right now that have lost property and animals during this recent weather event.  The Lord is always near the brokenhearted.  He is always showing us His faithfulness and help.  I don’t worry as much as my husband.  I know the Lord takes care of those who love Him.  Oh, my husband knows this too, but as he always tells me, he is the one to clean it up. I smile when I type that, because no one is an island. An educational mentor said that to me this past week with regard to education. That phrase is true in all areas of life. If we have the Lord as our Savior, we are not an island. 

Verse 10 says “I do not hide your righteousness in my heart; I speak of your faithfulness and your saving help.” That is what I will do. I will speak of his faithfulness and mercy.  You see, “Many, Lord my God are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare.”, vs. 5.
