Slipping…

My husband, sons, and I all have a distorted sense of humor. My husband frequently tells me various bushes and plants in his way in the yard are the first to go should I go first. My sons’ tell me at the first sign of drool I’m headed to the home. We laugh. I know this humor is hard for those who have lost loved ones and those who have gone through the nursing home process. We sincerely apologize to anyone offended. That being said, we have gone through those things too and understand the pain and heartaches. Everyone has their way of coping.
On a rare Saturday where I have snippets of time at home, I have washed dishes as I’ve made sourdough bread, starting cinnamon rolls, washing and drying multiple loads of laundry, been 30 minutes to the store for farm supplies and groceries and 30 minutes back, checked cows with the husband, and spent an hour and a half looking for a rolling pin. I have two and can’t find either one! Mind you, I used one less than a month ago. I finally gave up to sit quietly on my porch, text my family to see if they have them, and ponder what glass to use in the place of the non-existent rolling pin.
God directed this blog and so I’m going with His leading as I type. It occurs to me that some things are not always right at our fingertips. Some things, in life, we search for. It also occurs to me that I haven’t called on the Lord to help me. Now, here is where some are thinking “for a rolling pin?”. Oh, yes. I call on Him in all situations. But today, today I tried to do it myself and wasted time in the process. Does that mean I will go inside and find the elusive rolling pins? Perhaps not! But it does mean that God wanted to remind me that as I’m busy today, I needed to stop and go to Him. He needed my attention. He wanted me to acknowledge His guidance and His care in all things. I love His gentle reminders of turning my eyes and heart to Him. Don’t you?
Luke 16:10 – (Jesus said,) “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones. But if you are dishonest in little things, you won’t be honest with greater responsibilities.“
