Something More…
Something More…

I absolutely love painting. It is my therapy. I can take a piece of lauan, cardboard, paper, glass, or a blank canvas, draw on a pattern and go to town. I mix paints, try shades, paint over if I mess up, and try again. No fear when it comes to painting. Each medium is an opportunity for something more than the blankness that exists at the beginning. Each piece is an expression of me. I say it has character.

My oldest son is a machinist. He starts with a piece of metal, calibrates the machine, and then begins. Each piece is a process. The first image above shows a large piece of metal. The second something more. Something bright, shiny, beautiful, purposeful, and interesting. Both powerful, both the same material, but one has been sharpened by the other. He has made piston heads for dump truck bed lifting cylinders, oil rig drilling components, submarine parts to robotic arms. Every part has to start with a piece of metal and then is transformed into something more.

You see, we are the piece of metal. Jesus transforms us by His grace and mercy into something more, something new, and makes us beautiful. He sends others to sharpen us, lift us, teach us, and guide us as Christians into more. We start out as the piece, and through God’s Son, we become daughters and sons of a King. Each working together to make the body of Christ. I am in awe of how God can take someone like me, sharpen and whittle away at my ugly, and reveal His beauty.

Proverbs 27:17, “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
