The Hole…8-21-25
The Hole…8-21-25

My grandson knows how to work my phone well. Last night, he breathlessly ran into church. “Moppy, I need your phone to take a picture.” I handed him my phone, and out the door he ran. As I was waiting on our service, talking with a friend, he ran back in again showing his picture. I waited my turn to see what was so intriguing that required an immediate photo, and his obvious excitement. A hole! It was a hole.

As we pulled into church earlier, there was an electric truck with a post-hole digger on the front. A member had asked about installing a flag pole for an American and Christian flag. The obvious fascination was the hole being dug in front of our Fellowship Hall. To my grandson, this was a momentous occasion worthy of capturing an image.

The hole reminds me of our life without God. It is empty and void of hope. Our lives may seem to be good, but there is a hole that only the Lord can fill. When we become Christians, His spirit fills our emptiness. At church, the concrete will go into the hole. God is our concrete. He cements us into His kingdom. Ecclesiastes 3:11, "He has planted eternity in the human heart". He provides our foundation that keeps us from wavering, just like the ground and concrete provides stability for the flagpole.

Psalms 18:2, "The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” His love has filled every hole in my life. It sometimes seems like I’m a sponge that leaks with holes of doubt, fear, anxiety, or even pain. God plugs each hole with His mercy, goodness, and blessings.
