The Light Within…
Habakkuk 3:4 — “His splendor is like the sunrise.”
My husband and I have always been captivated by lighthouses. Every large body of water we are near, we look to see if there are any to explore. There are many places where you would not expect to see a lighthouse. On a man made lake in the middle of the desert is one place that I did not expect them. In this location, there are 28 fully functioning lighthouses. As we slid past this one from the water at 6:10 in the morning, I noticed the sun. The light of the lighthouse was blinking, but the sun was shining brightly over-powering the light from within the small space.
Isn’t that the way God intended? His glory would be so powerful that it would overtake everything that surrounds it. The intense brightness reminds me of the scripture of Moses after he had been with God on the mountain and the people couldn’t look on his face. Exodus 33-34. The glory of the Lord was so powerful that his presence was too much to behold face-to face. Almost like looking at the sun, and having to turn away because of the immense brightness. Almost, that is.
Isaiah 60:1, “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you."
You see, each of us as Christians carry that beautiful small light inside us. We don’t see it, but others do. They notice and they wonder at what it is that makes us different. It is that light. The small light that is a tiny mirror of God’s glory, His power, His forgiveness, and His grace. It is what we are filled with when we accept Jesus as our Savior. Just like the tiny lighthouse shines even though the sun is brightly shining and overwhelming, we shine even as He shines all around us. Matthew 5:16 — “Let your light shine before others.“
