The Quiet Before The Storm…6-7-25

There are only a few times throughout the year that I can sit for as long as I want watching the vehicles pass, listening to nature, and enjoying the crisp cool morning. In the summer, the heat takes over and sometimes is oppressive. The tasks for most days are present. But there are times when my husband goes on to the farm work, and I sit quietly and listen. I hear the birds sing. I hear the engines of tractors, cars, trucks, road construction as they re-pave the highway down from us, and the wind as it softly blows. I smell the rain in the distance. I see the clouds form, and I know the storm is coming.

You see, we become attuned to nature and are aware of changes and warnings. Becoming closer to God, we can sense those as well. As I hear the thunder, I know the storm will be here soon. Life has storms that arise and pass quickly. There are also steady rains that come and stay for awhile. There are storms that leave us shaking our head at the aftermath, but others just give us a quick reminder of His grace.

I know that it is in the quiet before the storm that God prepares our hearts. Just like my husband just put up his side-by-side in preparation, God prepares and strengthens us before a storm. I have several friends, Ladies that I love dearly, who are in the midst of storms. Did they see the storm coming? Did they see the warning signs? Did they have time to prepare? Many times we don’t see those signs, but God knows.

Isaiah 4:6, “It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain”. Just like my house is my shelter, God is our shelter. He protects us before, during, and after the storms. He leads us through the valleys and walks with us. I just love that thought. “He walks with me and talks with me along life’s narrow way.” I don’t know when my storm will come again. But, I know I will enjoy the quiet before the storm and prepare my heart in Him. For my Ladies, I know who strengthens you. I know who holds you in His hands. You will pass through this storm renewed, strengthened, and strong by His grace.
