Two Lanes, Which Foot?
1 John 2:15, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” I have been thinking about this blog for some time. Praying about some things, and struggling with others.
As I drive down the road, I am constantly reminded of the verses in John about separating ourselves from the world and the things therein. I see the lanes, and I see my feet. I am constantly, as are you, inundated with choices, pressures, worldly things and thoughts that tempt us into becoming complacent with regard to our service. Colossians 3:2, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
I am saddened as I watch myself occasionally, more than I would like, become familiar with the worldly nature of life today. I am heartened as my mind and heart turns immediately to God’s teaching. I see what and how I should look at the world. I know the difference. I know this because I read the scripture, attend Bible study, hear the word spoken in Sunday, and I pray!.
There is a couple I know, that I pray for daily. I see them trying to live in the world. I see them being pulled and succumbing to the fleshly desires. I also see them being fed the word, encouraged by others to be in the word. I see them riding the double yellow. They swerve and move from lane to lane freely without thought. I see their maneuvering and I cry out to God for them, on their behalf.
At some point, when we ride the center, disasters will inevitably occur. We will hit head on and face reality. Whether in this world or in front of the throne of judgment, we will be held accountable. 1 John 2:16-17, “For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
