Unmoved…

Hebrews 13:8 tells us that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." He is not moved by the world. He is constant.
A young lady who is a fellow educator recently became engaged. She is a woman of faith. Her fiance' works in Texas. When she came in today, she told me that her fiance' had a car wreck earlier this morning. He typically drives about an hour and a half to work. He drifted off to sleep and crashed. The car, a VW Beetle, belonged to his grandmother, and is most obviously totaled. By the grace of God, he only has a few minor scratches on his hand. Everything in the car is upended, except one item. A tiny plastic Jesus that his grandmother had sitting on the dashboard. This small Jesus figurine was still in it's original position, unmoved and undisturbed by the items tossed about during the violent impact of the crash. Bumpers torn from the vehicle, fenders and front end smashed on all sides, air bag deployed, and yet, the replica of Jesus was unmoved.
To me, there are two lessons here. The first, God has a protective hand. He holds us dear. Sometimes, we are protected by His hand. Our purpose is still waiting. At other times, He has plans that our limited understanding can't fathom when there is injury or death as accidents occur. Except, nothing is really by circumstance. God is in the middle of every situation, every accident, every tragic event, and every pothole we hit. Only God, in his infinite wisdom, knows what those plans are, and we need only trust him.
The other lesson that is that God is unmoved. He is the same, all the time, in every circumstance, and for every season. He is unyielding and does not waiver in His love for us. He does not change with emotions. The Psalmist wrote, "In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.", Psalm 102:25-27.
God doesn 't become stained, worn out, torn, damaged, and need replacing. He is not fickle as people are changing their minds with ease. He remains the same even when we move closer to Him, or sometimes farther away. He is there waiting for us. He is right where He has always been. God, the Father, is in Heaven with His Son, Jesus, sitting on the right side of the Father welcoming us to come to Him to receive forgiveness and cleansing.
1 Corinthians 15:58 asks us to be immoveable as well. "Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain." Just as God is not moved, and just as God is always present for us, we are to work for Him. I love the old hymn"
I Shall Not Be Moved
"If I Trust Him Ever, I Shall Not Be Moved:
He Will Fail Me Never, I Shall Not Be Moved;
Just Like A Tree That’s Planted By The Waters,
I Shall Not Be Moved."
