Embrace The Annoyances...6-10-25

My husband likes to pick. He especially likes to do this with me. The ultimate goal is to make me laugh. Don't tell him, but sometimes I try really hard not to. Who am I kidding? You know he will read this. Sometimes I can't help myself. He told me awhile back to "embrace the annoyance". That was a statement worthy of a title. I quickly went for my phone to which he stated, "Did I make your blog?" Yes, yes you did.

You see, sometimes we have to embrace the things that pester, bug, annoy, or bother us because it is within those things that lessons occur. If we pay attention in life, really pay attention, God is blessing us and teaching us in so many ways. Now, let me say this, there were many instances during our 43 years together that I have not had time for his antics. I rush from one thing to another. God slows me down through him. He gives me pause to stop and laugh. Sometimes I am not appreciative of this blessing, but I am beginning to realize just how important in my life it is.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” James 1:17. Now, I know at this point when my husband reads this blog what he will say. He reads them all. He is my best friend and critique. But in this scripture, God is telling us that His gifts are perfect for us. They are what we need for that day, moment, season, and time. He knows what we need and when we need it. He loves us that much to be sure we get those gifts.

I didn't receive gifts as a child. Gifts are not as important as the giver. Yes, occasionally, I would receive the Christmas gift from the Santa someone would send to our house. Sometimes, if we had any money that my father didn't gamble, I would be dropped off at the store to buy for the family. My mother never did that. It was me choosing this with whatever money I was given to buy for all. I became really good at getting everyone something because God would always put those sale items there. I learned how to get a lot with next to nothing.

But God sends those blessings to us, just like my husband. He works hard. He cares for his mother. He provides a home for our son and his family. He loves his grandson. He annoys me, but he loves me. God knew what my heart needed and he provided. “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits.”

– Psalm 103:2
