Heart Bonds...

Sunny, aka Gary, has been part of our family since November. He has developed quite the bond with two people, my grandson and my husband. He will quickly leave me in the dust when he hears the voice of my husband or grandson. During the fall, spring, and many winter days, you will find my husband and I in our chairs on the porch drinking coffee. Sunny is ever present on his lap first.

Sometimes our spot is a place of quiet reflection. At other times, it is a place where we share, listen, vent, talk over issues, discuss situations, read devotionals, or simply watch the nature around us. Eventually, life will drive me to work and he will head to the farm life. In the late summer, I will stay as long as the heat will allow on a rare Saturday knowing that inevitably, chores await. Sunny is there. He lays comfortably on my husband’s lap in his swing, occasionally gets on the table beside me, or grooms himself after his breakfast while the quiet settles around. The bond is strong. The understanding is evident that he is safe and comforted within our presence as that bond grows stronger each day. These bonds are present in my husband and I as well. Each day, the bond grows as we age and move into the next path God has for us. Romans 8:38-39, "Nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

God develops those heart bonds with others as well. He provides for us daily with His love and strength, His word to guide. But, I believe, God also puts those in our life to develop us. Those are heart bonds. Whether that is a person who is our prayer partner, a friend to talk with in times of need, our relationships with family, or coworkers, these bonds are our strength to point us to God. These bonds are God’s way to develop us, guide us, and strengthen us in the Word. A heart bond is God’s way of providing a humanly source of a reflection of Christ in our lives to be His hands and His heart as we are called to be. Who is your heart bond? Are they leading and guiding you closer to God, or pulling you away? My heart bonds are strengthening my understanding of God’s great love for me. I am so blessed with those bonds. 2 Corinthians 6:16 – "I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people."
