The Fog…6-5-25

Sometimes when we get up, there is a fog that has settled. The surrounding countryside has been enveloped in a haze that thickens to obscure everything from our field of vision. The fog this morning is so thick that I can’t see the neighbors, cars as they come down the road, or the barn only a short distance in the pasture. Oh, I know what causes fog. I’ve been a science teacher for 25 years. But, it never ceases to leave me in awe when and how quick the fog appears. Sometimes the fog will slowly lift, but at other times it will quickly be gone. One of those times, for me, that God is so evident.

When my husband and I used to hike, we would walk through fog in the valleys. But, we also walked over mountains in the fog. Just as God led us in the valleys, God is leading in the mountains. Most people think of the mountaintops as joyous, struggle free, and moments or days where we can take a breath. We think of those times as being able to ease up, loosen our armor, and relax a bit before the next battle. Not so, we need to strengthen our relationship with God.

You see, the fog is our struggles and battles. Sometimes, the struggle is so intense that it is hard to see and breathe. Just like the fog, it obscures our vision. We are so focused on the pain and heartache that we can’t see Who is leading us. We forget to just close our eyes and let God lead us. Exodus 14:14, "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.“

Wow, what a thought. Trust in Him, be still, and understand the fog will lift if we are only still and turn to Him, He will lead us. The Bible says to “Be still and know that I am God”, Psalms 46:10. In the fog, the rain, the valley, or the mountaintop, He strengthens and He leads.
