The Wind...6-18-25
The Wind...6-18-25

I have many memories of childhood that were filled with doubt and fear. Unfortunately with that, I blocked a lot of people and faces out of my mind. The doctor told me it was due to trauma. I can't remember my Grandparents' faces, cousins, or friends from school. I only remember a few names. Details of some things won't ever go away.

Time reminds me of the wind. As quickly as the wind blows and moves on, so does time. I don't look back at memories, or lack thereof, and feel the same way anymore. I know what happened had a purpose. Just as the wind signals a change in the weather, the passing of time signals a change in our lives. As I sit in my favorite spot, the wind is blowing and I am grateful for it. Without the wind, it would be hot and stuffy. Without time, we would not grow.

You see, there are people who are afraid of the passing time. I have heard some refer to a baby growing with comments of "time slow down". I have heard laments of time passing and our getting older. To be honest, the last one I have probably been guilty of. But, just like the wind is important for fronts and clouds moving in and out of areas, the passing of time is essential. It brings us one step closer to God. It brings clarity with experiences and understanding in past mistakes. We grow, we move, we learn, and we enjoy the breeze on our face in the present.

In Ezekiel 37, wind brings bones to life. In Acts 2:2, the Holy Spirit comes as wind on the day of Pentecost. "Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting."

The Greek word for spirit, πνεῦμα (pneuma), also can mean wind, inner life, or breath. Jesus tells Nicodemus in John 3:8 "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

I am grateful for the wind. I am grateful for the memories I do have. I am grateful for the passing of time and the present. But, I am so very grateful for the Holy Spirit, my breath.
